What is BioData.pt?

BioData.pt is the Portuguese distributed infrastructure for biological data and the Portuguese ELIXIR node.

BioData.pt supports the national scientific system through best practices in data management and state of the art data analysis.

It interfaces with both academia and industry, making research available for innovation, namely in sectors such as agro-food and forestry, sea, and health.

BioData.pt services include ELIXIR services such as our training programme and computing facilities, as well as consulting services in data analysis and management, and a number of community services.

Who we are

BioData.pt is a consortium of the following twelve member institutions:

Centro de Biotecnologia Agrícola e Agro-Alimentar do Alentejo (CEBAL), Centro de Ciências do Mar (CCMAR), Champalimaud Foundation, Instituto de Engenharia de Sistemas e Computadores, Investigação e Desenvolvimento em Lisboa (INESC-ID), Institute for Bioengineering and Biosciences (iBB), Instituto de Biologia Experimental e Tecnológica (iBET), Instituto de Biologia Molecular e Celular (IBMC), Instituto de Tecnologia Química e Biológica António Xavier (ITQB NOVA), Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência (IGC), Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), Portugal’s Biotechnology Industry Organization (P-BIO), Universidade do Minho

Our organization

BioData.pt OrganigramBioData.pt is overseen by a Management Board, composed by the heads of all member institutions.

The Direction manages the day-to-day activities. It receives strategic advice from the Scientific Advisory Board.

The ELIXIR PT Node leadership represents Portugal and ensures the fullfillment of its commitment before the European ELIXIR consortium.

The operational branch of the infrastructure is divided into three categories:

Communities, which represent different life science domains (agro-food and forestry, sea, health).

Platforms, which represent different areas of activity transversal to the Communities (computing, training).

Services that the infrastructure provides to the overall community.
