About this training event
Overview
The Cyprus institute of Neurology and Genetics (CING) is organizing an introductory course on Research Data Management (RDM) best practices that will take place online on Friday 17th February, 2023. The course is supported by the EU-funded project ELIXIR-Converge (https://elixir-europe.org/about-us/how-funded/eu-projects/converge) that has as its main aim to help standardize life science research data management (RDM) across Europe.
General Information
The CING Bioinformatics Department (C-BIG) is a highly inter-disciplinary team founded in 2016 to host the Bioinformatics European Research Area Chair in Cyprus under the support of the EU H2020 ERA Chair grant, BIORISE (Grant Number 669026) and since then it has been transformed to a permanent Department within the Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics (CING). The mission of the Group is to function as a hub of excellence in the areas of applied bioinformatics to early diagnosis, effective prognosis and drug discovery contributing to the concepts of Preventive, Personalized and Precise Medicine. This is accomplished through state-of-the-art bioinformatics research, advanced education in postgraduate level and continuous development of bioinformatics methods and tools provided either as services or as publicly available applications.
C-BIG is a member of the steering committee for the establishment of the CYPRUS-ELIXIR Node and a member of ELIXIR-Converge. With this action we are aiming to increase awareness and knowhow on issues surrounding RDM in Cyprus.
ELIXIR (https://elixir-europe.org/) is an intergovernmental organisation/network that brings together life science resources from across Europe. These resources include databases, software tools, training materials, cloud storage and supercomputers. The goal of ELIXIR is to coordinate these resources so that they form a single infrastructure. This infrastructure makes it easier for scientists to find and share data, exchange expertise and agree on best practices. Cyprus is not yet a full member of ELIXIR. It is an observer and is working towards full membership. For a full list of nodes follow the link (https://elixir-europe.org/about-us/who-we-are/nodes).
The course will be provided in collaboration with ELIXIR Portugal and specifically BioData.pt and is an introductory course aiming at disseminating Data Management best practices and teaching the basics of making and using Data Management Plans (DMP) in the context of research activities.
The course will be provided as a full-day featuring two introductory lectures on Research Data Management and Data Management Plans. Followed by a hands-on DMP exercise where participants will form groups to fill in a DMP for a mock research project.
