BioData.pt | ELIXIR Portugal was represented by Pedro Barros, from the Instituto de Tecnologia Química e Biológica, at the online workshop “Enhancing Pan-Genome Analysis in Plants (E-PAN)”, held on 18 May 2026.
Organised by the E-PAN consortium, the workshop showcased the main outcomes of the E-PAN project and its contribution to advancing plant pan-genome analysis. Funded through the ELIXIR Commissioned Services Science Tier Biodiversity, Food Security and Pathogens programme, the project focused on improving and standardising methodologies for plant pan-genome research, addressing challenges related to quality control, gene presence and absence analysis, structural variant detection, data integration and visualisation.
As a speaker representing BioData.pt | ELIXIR Portugal, Pedro Barros contributed to the dissemination of the project’s achievements and highlighted the importance of collaborative efforts to develop robust and interoperable approaches for plant genomic data analysis. His participation reflected the active involvement of the Portuguese ELIXIR Node in European initiatives aimed at strengthening research infrastructures and advancing data-driven life sciences.
The workshop brought together researchers, bioinformaticians and stakeholders interested in plant genomics, providing a platform to discuss best practices, emerging tools and future opportunities for collaboration in the field of pan-genome analysis. Through its participation, BioData.pt continues to support the development and adoption of standards, tools and services that enable FAIR and reproducible research across the life sciences community.
