Why should you care?
Data Management Plans (DMP) are documents that describe the techniques, methods and policies on how data will be created, documented, accessed, preserved and disseminated throughout a project’s life cycle. Most funding agencies now require that researchers submit a DMP with grant applications.
Community's efforts
Currently DMPs display a series of issues such as:
- a varying level of detail,
- lack of consistency,
- and non standardization.
The concept of Machine-Actionable DMP (maDMP), aims at solving some of these issues by making the DMP machine-readable without compromising its human-readability.
The DMP Common Standard model, developed by a Research Data Alliance (RDA) workgroup, presents a minimum set of universal terms that ensure standardization and basic interoperability of systems using maDMPs.
Our contribution
The ontology that we present is a representation of the DMP Common Standard model, and as such, a materialization of the maDMP concept. Our objective is to promote the creation of representations of individual DMPs by using our ontology. We hope to process these representations and develop services for creating, sharing, reususing and processing of maDMPs, and also increasing their value by extracting non explicit information from them.
