The first session of the Training Data Stewards for Life Sciences course took place yesterday, fully online and entirely hands-on. Organised by BioData.pt as part of the GLIM-BioData Research Data Management Centre, this initial session introduced participants to fundamental principles of research data management and provided practical tools to support the early stages of the data lifecycle.
The programme covered a range of key topics, including an introduction to the data lifecycle, delivered by Inês Chaves and Gil Poiares Oliveira (BioData.pt); controlled vocabularies and the Ontology Lookup Service, presented by Pedro Barros (ITQB); the use of electronic lab notebooks (eLabFTW), led by Carolina Ventura Costa (CIIMAR); version control with Git and GitHub, taught by Ricardo Leite (GIMM); and workflow management using Snakemake, with Francisco Pina Martins (FCUL).
A big thank you goes out to all the trainers and participants for an engaging and collaborative start to the course. We’re already looking forward to the next session!
