ELIXIR Portugal represented at Fulbright Talks by Ana Teresa Freitas

Professor Ana Teresa Freitas speaking at a FLAD Fulbright Talk on ELIXIR’s role in sustainable life science data infrastructure, highlighting international collaboration and her Fulbright research experience in the USA

As part of the Fulbright Talks hosted by FLAD – Fundação Luso-Americana para o Desenvolvimento, Professor Ana Teresa Freitas, Head of Node of ELIXIR Portugal, gave a presentation titled "ELIXIR: Providing a Sustainable Infrastructure for Life Science Data at European Scale".

The talk was delivered in the context of her role as a 2023 PT Fulbright Scholar, which enabled her to work for three months at the National Cancer Institute in the USA, developing her research in advanced algorithms for polygenic risk modelling. The session was moderated by Emanuel Gonçalves, PT Fulbright Scholar 2024 at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard.

During the session, Professor Ana Teresa highlighted the mission and impact of ELIXIR Europe in building a federated infrastructure for life science data, and emphasized the role of BioData.pt as the ELIXIR’s Portuguese node, supporting open science, data stewardship, and interoperability in national and European research.

This presentation reflected both the scientific relevance of ELIXIR and the spirit of transatlantic collaboration fostered by the Fulbright Program.
