CIIMAR hosts hands-on training session on eLabFTW under GLIM-BioData and FAIRWAY projects

eLabFTW CIIMAR 2025 News

On 28 April 2025, CIIMAR, the Interdisciplinary Centre of Marine and Environmental Research, hosted a hands-on training session on eLabFTW, an open-source electronic lab notebook (ELN) platform designed to support FAIR research data practices. The event was organised within the scope of the GLIM-BioData and FAIRWAY projects, both focused on establishing Research Data Management (RDM) Competence Centres in Portugal. The session began with Luciana Peixoto (BioData.pt) introducing the GLIM-BioData project, followed by Maria Paola Tomasino (CIIMAR), who presented the FAIRWAY project and its goals in promoting FAIR data practices in marine research. Despite the unexpected national power outage, the training continued without interruption. Carolina Ventura Costa(CIIMAR) led a live demonstration of eLabFTW’s features and benefits, and Bruno Louro (CCMAR) shared a real-world use case from the EMBO BON project, illustrating the platform’s value in daily research workflows. This session stands as a great example of resilience and collaboration across institutions working to advance open, transparent, and high-quality data management in science.
