BioData.pt joins SCAILED project

The launch of the SCAILED project

BioData.pt is one of the 47 full partners of SCAILED (SCale-up Biotech AI Innovation by Leveraging Responsible Data Use under the European Health Data Space), a new European project that held its kick-off meeting in Luxembourg on 20 and 21 October 2026. Jorge Oliveira, Technical Coordinator of BioData.pt, represented the team at the event.

Coordinated by the Luxembourg National Data Service (LNDS), SCAILED brings together 50 partners from 17 EU Member States, including health data authorities, hospitals, research centres, scientific infrastructures, patient organisations, companies and supercomputing centres.

Over 36 months, and with €14.4 million in funding from the EU4Health programme, the project will work to facilitate secure and responsible access to health data, promote harmonised governance aligned with the European Health Data Space, and provide greater clarity on the regulatory and ethical requirements affecting innovation. It will also run pilot projects in genomics, cancer imaging and brain health, and validate AI solutions in real-world settings, supporting their scale-up through the European AI Factories.

During the kick-off meeting, partners discussed the main challenges to developing and scaling AI-based biotech solutions in Europe, from access to data and infrastructure to regulatory complexity and collaboration across the ecosystem.
