I'm a Molecular and Computational Biologist, holding a BSc in Biology with a Minor in Informatics from the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon, and a MSc in Biotechnology from the NOVA School of Science and Technology of NOVA University Lisbon.
My main scientific interests lie in understanding complex biological systems and applying that knowledge towards the development of novel biotechnological approaches to tackle human disease. He has had biomedical research experience in both laboratorial and computational settings. My formal scientific career started with fundamental biomedical research in the field of epigenetics and then progressed to computational systems biology research in metabolomics and, afterwards, in transciptomics and multiomics.
Currently, I work as a Bioinformatics Technician at INESC-ID for BioData.pt, the national biological data research infrastructure, and ELIXIR Portugal, the national node of the European bioinformatics infrastructure, where I was nominated Deputy Node Coordinator for Portugal. My main area of work revolves around Bioinformatics Training and Research Data Management (RDM). I'm involved in multiple projects and activities at ELIXIR Europe, and am the co-leader of a work package in the ELIXIR Train-the-Trainer CoS, to establish a mentorship programme for emerging trainers at the European level. I'm also in the Editorial Board of RDMkit, ELIXIR’s flagship resource for RDM best practices and data FAIRification.
At the national level, I am currently one of the authors and trainers of the BioData.pt flagship training programme Ready for BioData.pt Management?, a project under the scientific coordination of Prof. Daniel Faria (DEI, Técnico Lisboa). This work has deepened his interest in science communication and pedagogy, and FAIR research practices for open science, essential skills for scientists in the 21st century.
